La Closerie Saint Martin

A charming and authentic bed & breakfast for you to enjoy. La Closerie Saint Martin offers B&B and half-board in the 14th and 17th century outbuildings of a former priory, 6 km from Chinon in the Loire Valley. It is located in a small typical Touraine village with buildings constructed from local «tuffeau» stone and slate, and surrounded by vineyards (Chinon AOC). The property has undergone full renovation, adding modern comfort whilst preserving period features (beams, terracotta tiles, floorboards, fireplace). As the door to La Closerie Saint Martin is pushed open, one is struck by the calm and serenity emanating from the flowered courtyard behind closed walls, surrounded by an environment filled with history. Your host, Didier-Edouard, has travelled extensively in his former professional career, but does not speak English fluently. This is, however, largely compensated for by his enthusiasm, his communication skills, and the warmth of his hospitality. The Guest Book (Livre d'Or) bears testimonials from guests from the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Germany, and Spain. External features include a flowered terrace and a garden. Private parking and closed garage are available for guests use. Three spacious double rooms, each with private access, are available: La Suite d'Amélie (40 m2), La Chambre du Prieur (36 m2), and Les Années 30 (31 m2). Each room is located on a first floor, decorated with quality antique furniture, and has fully equipped en-suite facilities (toilet, bath or shower, and hair-drier). An additional room is scheduled for Summer 2006: La Loge. Please enquire for the availability of additional beds for children. Evening meals are available upon reservation. In warmer weather, breakfast and meals are eaten outdoors on the terrace. The houses are built on caves which were originally part of an underground network beneath the hamlet. Guests can choose the wine to drink with their meal directly in these authentic Chinon caves, and view there the ancient bread oven and an interesting well. Guests can relax in the comfort of a very quiet environment, and find practical advice to help them discover the Loire Valley. Your host can, with great pleasure, guide you in planning visits (castles, abbeys, gardens), or sports activities (bicycle riding, golf, horse riding), or your host can also arrange visits with wine growers in the different appellations around the area. Boat excursions in a traditional flat-bottom boat (« toue ») along the Vienne and Loire rivers can be arranged. Your host can also recommend a selection of restaurants, corresponding to a wide variety of cuisine and price range.

Le Clos de Ligré

This beautiful and fully restored 19th century bourgeois residence provides you with a happy and charming place to stay. After a day of exploring the historical sights and attractions, you will appreciate the calm and relaxing sunny gardens. The swimming pool and the covered terrace help to add additional charm and comfort to the already soothing and relaxing atmosphere found at Le Clos de Ligré. For your enjoyment, there is a pleasant music parlor with piano. In addition, there is a library with its own fireplace, which guests may also use. A delicious tasting breakfast is served in the dining room or, if the weather is good, in the beautiful garden. Upon request, a candlelight dinner is served in the family dining room. Le Clos de Ligré allows you to choose from 4 spacious and very comfortable rooms. Each room has its own unique style and character. In the past, one room was the location of an ancient wine press. Another room was a fruit store which now has a parlor with a view of the swimming pool. The third room, which is located inside the house, is wonderfully delightful and exudes originality. The last room is a luxurious and spacious room with a superb original beam, a private bathroom, a mezzanine with a gorgeous view of the garden, the swimming pool and the Loire countryside. Set amongst 9 hectares of woods, the Château de la Brosse is the ideal place to relax and enjoy the easy going Touraine lifestyle. This superb XVIIIth century mansion will be the perfect place to discover, or rediscover, the "jardin de la France". A few kilometers outside the city of Tours, the Château de la Brosse is well situated for visits to the world famous châteaux of the Loire valley. Amboise, for example, with its château, Leonardo da Vinci's last home, the Mini-Châteaux theme park and Aquarium de Touraine will take you on a journey through history... whilst the Futuroscope at Poitiers will propel you into the future! Nearby castles include Blois, Villandry, Amboise, Chambord, Chaumont, Rigny Ussé and Chenonceaux. While staying at the château, you have the choice between lodging in rooms or in the guest house. On the first floor of the château, five luxuriously decorated rooms await you. Each room has its own tea and coffee tray, and en suite bathroom. The style and size of each room varies from a room with two single beds to the grand suite (king size bed, en suite bathroom and lounge).
